1. (a) Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj has become the first Indian to score 2,000 runs in T20 International Cricket. She achieved the landmark during India’s seven-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the Women’s Asia Cup T20 at Kaula Lumpur on June 7, 2018. Mithali now has 2,015 runs from 75 matches. Indian men’s team captain Virat Kohli with 1,983 runs is the next on the list, followed by Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina.

2. (b) YM Deosthalee committee

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has considered the recommendations of YM Deosthalee-headed High Level Task Force and will set up a Public Credit Registry (PCR) in a modular and phased manner. The PCR is an information repository that collates all loan information of individuals and corporate borrowers.

3. (c) Kerala

India recorded 22 per cent reduction in Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) since 2013, as per the Sample Registration System (SRS) bulletin that was released on June 6, 2018. According to the bulletin, the MMR in India declined from 167 in 2011-2013 to 130 in 2014-2016. Kerala topped the list with 46 MMR, followed by Maharashtra with 61 and Tamil Nadu with 66.

In a bid to give a big push towards the ease of doing business in the state, Punjab Government has launched a ‘Business First Portal’ which was unveiled by Industry Minister Sunder Sham Arora on June 8, 2018. Terming the new portal as one step solution for industrialists, Arora said that Regulatory clearances of all other departments would be integrated in the portal.

5. (a) Baba Kalyani

The Union Government has constituted a group of eminent persons to study the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Policy of India. The group will be headed by Industrialist Baba Kalyani. The group will evaluate the SEZ policy, suggest measures to cater to the needs of exporters in the present economic scenario and make the SEZ policy WTO compatible.

6. (c) Himachal Pradesh

The Himachal Pradesh government has decided to do away with semester system in under-graduate courses and revert to annual examination system. Education Minister Suresh Bharadwaj said on June 7, 2018 that the decision has been taken on the recommendation made by a review committee on the issue.

7. (b) Juno

NASA on June 7, 2018 approved an extension of Juno’s science operations until July 2021. This provides the space probe with an additional 41 months in orbit around Jupiter. The decision was taken after an independent panel of experts confirmed in April that Juno is on track to achieve its science objectives and is already returning spectacular results.

After assessing the current and evolving macroeconomic situation in the economy, the six members Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to increase the policy Repo Rate under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) by 25 basis points to 6.25 percent.

In an unprecedented move, the Haryana government has directed sportspersons employed with it to deposit one-third of their earnings from commercial and professional commitments to the state sports council, drawing sharp criticism from the athletes.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on June 6, 2018 decided to allow voluntary transition of the Urban Co-Operative Banks (UCB) into Small Finance Banks (SFB), a move that is aimed at bringing UCBs into mainstream banking.
