Pakistan will be hosting its 1st SCO meeting, since the country along with India became a member of the organization in June 2017. India has confirmed its attendance in Shanghai Cooperation Organization-Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure Legal Experts meeting to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan.

India has been ranked 145th among 195 countries with score of 41.2 in terms of Healthcare Access and Quality (HAQ) index of 2016, as per Lancet’s latest study “Global Burden Of Disease”. However, the report mentioned that India has seen improvements in healthcare access and quality since 1990.

The Union Cabinet approved an ordinance to set up India’s first national sports university in Imphal, Manipur. The ordinance is on the lines of the bill introduced in Lok Sabha in August, 2017. The proposed university will be spread over 325 acres and will cost Rs 524 crore.

The joint military exercise SURYA KIRAN-XIII between India and Nepal will be conducted at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand from 30 May to 12 June 2018. The exercise will comprise of nearly 300 soldiers from both Indian and Nepal Army.

Indonesia has passed a new law that will give police more power to take per-emptive action against terror suspects. The law was approved by the country’s parliament, days after suicide bombings claimed by Islamic State killed more than 30 people in the city of Surabaya.

Gobind Singh Deo, an Indian-origin Sikh politician in Malaysia, has become a cabinet minister in the nation. He is the first member of the minority community in Malaysia’s history to be appointed as a minister.

The UNICEF on May 24, 2018 launched a ‘data visualisation app’ which provides a user-friendly visual representation of complex analytics of the education scenario in the country. The app has been made with technical inputs from the UNICEF, in collaboration with the National Institute of Education Planning and Administration (NIEPA) and the National Council for Educational Research and Training.

The European Union’s new data protection laws came into effect on May 25, 2018. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) would give the European Union citizens more rights over how their personal information is used. The 13th meeting of the standing committee of Inter State Council was held in New Delhi.
